Springtime has Arrived

At last, springtimeĀ has almost arrived! It’s time to start thinking about spring cleanup and spring planting.Ā  Plan your garden planting now and prepare to plant early enough that they have time to establish themselves before the summer heat arrives!

Gardening Tips

  • Read the tags on the plant you purchase for important information, such as how much moisture it will need, how much room the plant will need to grow, and whether it is a plant that thrives in the sun or shade.
  • Understand the importance of zone ratings when it comes to gardening. Northeastern Pennsylvania is considered zone five, which is a cold-hardiness zone meaning plants in this part of the country will die in temperatures lower than 15 to 20 degrees below zero.
  • Some helpful ideas for planting and gardening: take the seeds from perennials and dry them out. Store them in a brown paper bag and then plant them in the spring. Another idea is if you do not have landscaping fabric, take several layers of newspaper, put mulch on top of it and then plant. This also keeps weeds away.
